Why 14k Gold-filled?

At Leonello, we choose 14K gold filled jewellery for its exceptional quality, longevity, and timeless appeal. Unlike traditional gold-plated jewellery, gold filled pieces are made by permanently bonding a thick layer of solid 14K gold to a base metal using heat and pressure. This creates a durable finish that won't easily flake, chip, or wear away.

Gold Filled vs Gold Plated

Although they may look similar when new, the difference lies in how they're made. Gold-plated jewellery has a very thin layer of gold electroplated onto a base metal, which can wear away relatively quickly with regular use, exposing the metal underneath.

Gold-filled jewellery contains a much thicker layer of real 14K gold that is mechanically bonded to the base metal. This means it lasts significantly longer, offers better durability, and retains its beautiful golden finish through everyday wear.

A Bit About Us

We’re Indi and Milla, two sisters born in Sydney, Australia, with a huge love for jewellery.

Our love for jewellery begins from some of our earliest memories, sitting at our mum’s feet while she opened her “treasure box”, a carefully curated collection of pieces she planned to one day pass down to us. We would beg to try everything on, layering rings and necklaces far too big for us, completely mesmerised.

Our Gran’s collection was just as magical, a lifetime of one-of-a-kind vintage pieces, each with its own story. To this day, we still rummage through her jewellery box before special occasions, now finally trusted enough to borrow something meaningful.

As we grew older, that childhood fascination evolved into something deeper. We became obsessed with discovering unique pieces to add to our own collections and eventually, creating our own. We started putting ideas onto paper, with the dream of one day making this our reality. We would start deconstructing jewellery, merging elements from different pieces to design something entirely new. Reinventing. Reimagining. Making it ours.

What began as play turned into purpose.

Milla realised her passion wasn’t just in promoting beautiful things, having previously studied marketing, but in creating them. She went on to learn the craft from the inside out, studying jewellery engineering.

Indi pursued Graphic and Textile Design, refining her eye for detail, texture, and form and couldn’t resist taking jewellery-making as an elective along the way.

We started putting ideas onto paper, with the dream of one day making this our reality.

Together, we blend craftsmanship and design, heritage and modernity, sentiment and self-expression.

Jewellery has always been part of our story; now we get to create pieces that become part of yours.
